A Caring Companion in Challenging Times
When Laura's* mom, Roberta*, suffered a stroke, their lives changed in an instant. Roberta, who had lived independently for decades, could no longer return to her rural home after being discharged from the hospital. She moved in with Laura, and the family rallied around - but not everyone could keep their promises of support.
As the responsibilities piled onto Laura's shoulders, the weight became almost too much to bear alone. That's when Hospice SLO County stepped in, providing the compassionate care and respite Laura and Roberta desperately needed.
One of the first gifts they received was a thoroughly trained volunteer to assist Roberta with her physical therapy exercises, take neighborhood walks together, or provide a reassuring presence while she napped. This allowed Laura to tend to her own health needs, knowing her mom was in caring hands.
Laura also found solace through counseling and Reiki services at our Hospice SLO County office, helping her navigate the heavy emotions of her new caregiving role. Our attentive Care Manager continues checking in and connecting the family with local resources for any arising needs.
"Having Hospice SLO County as a partner has made my role as a caregiver so much less stressful," Laura gratefully shares. "Now, instead of being overwhelmed, I can concentrate on being the loving daughter she deserves."
