Licensed Supervising Counselor (part-time 10-15 hours a week)

 

Hospice of SLO County is looking for a passionate, dedicated, professional person to fill our part-time Licensed Supervising Counselor position in San Luis Obispo. The Licensed Supervising Counselor is a key position in the coordination of the Hospice of SLO County’s counseling program, which consists of individual and support group counseling, community grief response and community education. Providers of these services include licensed therapists, graduate and postgraduate school trainees and associates, and trained paraprofessionals.

The Licensed Supervising Counselor works under the direction of the Counseling Director to supervise and train counselors, and maintains counselor records and documentation. They primarily provide individual and group clinical supervision, but will assist in a broad range of duties, including client intakes, community response and crisis management, staff and community education and coverage for other supervisors. They may provide direct client services when needed. This position requires strong interview and assessment capabilities and organizational skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and sensitivity.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provides individual and group supervision.
  • Monitors client documentation.
  • Assists with client intakes as needed.
  • Occasionally provides individual, child and family counseling, especially to complex, multi-need cases.
  • Keeps accurate, complete and timely counseling records and program statistics.
  • Provides backup support group coverage.
  • Able to communicate effectively and demonstrate flexibility interacting with staff, volunteers and the community.
  • Consults and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and others involved in the client’s care while maintaining dignity, support, holistic care for the client and or their caregiver(s).

COMPETENCIES and QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enthusiasm and the ability to train, support, supervise and motivate volunteers.
  • Experience with grief counseling preferred.
  • Possess current driver’s license, own auto insurance, transportation, and have the ability to work at multiple sites.
  • Maintain constructive relationships.
  • Demonstrate excellent critical thinking skills with the ability and flexibility to assess competing priorities and execute tasks in appropriate order.
  • Provide ideas, opinions and information in a professional manner.
  • Ability to receive direction and work independently on assigned projects while asking for assistance when needed and collaborating as a member of the team at all times.
  • Self-motivated with effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Able and willing to work effectively with diverse people and/or populations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of video-chat platforms, particularly Zoom.
  • Must be able to recognize, support and adhere to all Hospice SLO County policies and procedures.

Required Education and Experience

  • Possesses a clear California state license as an LMFT, LCSW, LPCC or psychologist.
  • Ability to provide clinical supervision according to California regulations.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE and SKILLS

  • Experience working in a nonprofit setting.
  • Previous experience in a volunteer program.
  • Bilingual skills desirable.
