Come make a difference at Hospice of San Luis Obispo County, a non-profit, volunteer hospice providing quality of life support to adults, children and the community for over 30 years. We provide free of charge in-home volunteer support, education, support groups, and counseling for individuals and families who are grieving or living with life threatening illness. The Executive Director manages program, operational/ financial matters, and public relations for the organization. Candidates must have a demonstrated ability in motivating and supervising staff and volunteers including an understanding and passion for our mission. We need an experienced professional who has excellent communication skills and is comfortable working in a collaborative volunteer setting.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Executive Director is accountable to the Board of Directors for the administrative, program, and personnel management of the organization. The Director is responsible for the implementation of all policies established by the Board of Directors and for the effective use of all resources in carrying out the organization's mission. This position sits as an ex-officio member of all committees, of the staff and Board, and requires flexibility, initiative, and effectiveness as a leader.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Demonstrates both a commitment and in depth knowledge of Hospice work and philosophy.
2. Formulates, recommends, and reviews policies and procedures for approval by the Board of Directors.
3. Manages the operational and financial matters of the organization and prepares an annual operating budget.
4. Oversees Planned Giving and donor relations for the organization.
5. Meets all legal requirements and maintains all contractual agreements.
6. Supervises the maintenance of proper client and business records.
7. Interviews and hires all qualified personnel, meeting established affirmative action practices and serves as the Affirmative Action Officer.
8. Supervises the training, management, and evaluation of all organization personnel in compliance with the personnel policies, the orientation of members of the Board of Directors, and the development of Board/staff relations.
9. Oversees public relations activities and outreach. This includes all related publications of the organization.
10. Corresponds and networks with community organizations and Hospice associations and keeps informed of current legislation pertaining to Hospice care and benefits.
11. Attends Board meetings and performs all other necessary duties as assigned by the Board.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. B.A. or B.S. Human Services background preferred.
2. Knowledge of the operational, legal, and financial responsibilities of a volunteer, nonprofit corporation.
3. Promotional and fundraising experience with skills in development, grant-writing, as well as community and media relations.
4. Excellent written and oral communication skills including public speaking.
5. Experience in interviewing and hiring qualified personnel.
6. Demonstrated ability in recruiting, motivating, supervising, and evaluating staff and volunteers.
7. Understanding of basic accounting procedures.
